About Apex Predator Geckos
Welcome to Apex Predator Geckos (est. 2011) — a dedicated UK reptile breeding project specialising in New Caledonian gecko species and focused on ethical breeding, exceptional husbandry, and long-term animal welfare.
Founded from a genuine passion for reptiles and over 15 years of hands-on experience, Apex Predator Geckos has grown into a carefully managed collection built on quality rather than quantity. Every animal within the collection is maintained with close attention to health, genetics, and responsible breeding practices.
The project is supported by a Herpetology Diploma with Distinction, combining academic knowledge with practical experience gained through many years of reptile keeping and breeding.
Apex Predator Geckos is also proud to hold the maximum 5 ★★★★★ Higher Standards AAL Licence (AWL0257).
What does a 5★ AAL Licence mean?
A 5★ AAL (Animal Activities Licensing) licence is the highest rating awarded by local authorities under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018.
This rating confirms that the breeder meets Higher Standards, going beyond the minimum legal requirements set for businesses selling animals.
A 5★ rating means:
• Animal welfare standards exceed the legal minimum
• Husbandry practices, enclosure design, and environmental control are inspected in detail
• Detailed record keeping is maintained for breeding, health, and lineage
• The licence holder has demonstrated proven knowledge and experience with the species kept
• Veterinary care plans, biosecurity measures, and emergency procedures are in place
• The business has demonstrated consistent compliance and professional standards
In short, a 5★ licence confirms that Apex Predator Geckos operates at the highest recognised welfare and professional standards, giving customers confidence that animals are bred, raised, and cared for responsibly.
Mossy Gecko — Mniarogekko chahoua
One of the most exciting species within the collection is the Mossy Gecko, particularly the pure white-collar Pine Island locality.
These incredible geckos are known for their cryptic moss-like appearance, calm temperament, and fascinating natural behaviours. The foundation animals within the collection were sourced from respected American breeders, forming the basis of a carefully curated breeding group.
Today, Apex Predator Geckos is proud to be producing its own UK-bred generation, helping maintain strong bloodlines and healthy captive populations.
Crested Geckos — Correlophus ciliatus
Crested geckos are where the journey truly began.
The passion started in 2010, after receiving two hatchlings as a gift. What began as curiosity quickly developed into a long-term fascination with New Caledonian species and their incredible diversity.
Today, Apex Predator Geckos maintains a small but carefully selected breeding group, focusing on striking morphs and strong genetics including:
• Drippy Tricolours
• Lilly Whites
• Sables
• Cappuccinos
The aim is always to produce healthy, well-started animals while maintaining responsible breeding standards.
Chameleon Geckos — Eurydactylodes
The newest addition to the collection, Eurydactylodes have quickly become a favourite species.
Often referred to as Chameleon Geckos, these small but charismatic reptiles are known for their unique skin texture, expressive behaviour, and fascinating personalities.
Species currently maintained include:
• Eurydactylodes symmetricus
• Eurydactylodes occidentalis
• Eurydactylodes vieillardi
• Eurydactylodes agricolae
Despite their small size, these geckos bring huge character to the collection and represent an exciting area for future development.
Bavayia robusta
Another species recently added to the collection is Bavayia robusta, often referred to as the Robust Forest Bavayia.
This gecko remains relatively uncommon in captivity, making it a particularly interesting species to work with. As the project develops, Apex Predator Geckos looks forward to gaining further experience with this species and contributing to its presence within responsible captive collections.
A Commitment to Responsible Reptile Keeping
At its core, Apex Predator Geckos is built around three principles:
• Animal welfare first
• Ethical and responsible breeding
• Education and long-term reptile care
Every gecko is raised with careful attention to diet, environment, and health, ensuring that animals leaving the collection are well established and ready for life in their new homes.
Apex Predator Geckos continues to grow slowly and responsibly, always prioritising the welfare of the animals and the integrity of the breeding project.
