Eurydactylodes Gecko Feeding Schedule

Eurydactylodes are small, active geckos with a faster metabolism than larger New Caledonian species. A consistent feeding routine keeps them in good condition and makes it easy to spot any changes in appetite. Because of their small size, portions should be kept small and fresh — uneaten food spoils quickly in a warm, humid enclosure.

Feeding Schedule by Age

Hatchlings and Young Juveniles (0–3 months)

  • CGD: Fresh mix every day — tiny amounts; a pea-sized portion is sufficient
  • Live insects: Every 2–3 days; fruit flies (Drosophila) and micro crickets only at this size
  • Supplements: Dust insects lightly with calcium at every live feeding; multivitamin every 5–7 days

Juveniles (3–6 months)

  • CGD: Fresh mix every day
  • Live insects: Every 2 days; move up to small crickets or small BSFL as size allows
  • Supplements: Calcium at every live feeding; multivitamin once per week

Sub-adults and Adults (6 months+)

  • CGD: Fresh mix every 1–2 days
  • Live insects: 2–3 times per week
  • Supplements: Calcium at every live feeding; multivitamin every 1–2 weeks

Breeding Females

  • CGD: Fresh mix every day
  • Live insects: 3–4 times per week for extra protein and calcium
  • Supplements: Calcium at every live feeding; additional calcium top-ups are important for laying females

Practical Feeding Tips

  • Offer CGD and live insects in the early evening when Eurydactylodes are naturally becoming active
  • Use very small dishes or bottle caps for CGD — standard gecko feeding ledges are often too large
  • Remove and replace uneaten CGD after 24 hours maximum — small amounts spoil quickly in humid conditions
  • Always size live prey appropriately — no wider than the space between the gecko’s eyes. This is critical for small Eurys
  • Eurydactylodes can be shy feeders — offer live prey after lights out when the gecko is naturally active and more confident
  • Weigh juveniles regularly — small geckos can lose condition quickly if feeding is missed
  • Always provide fresh water via misting and a tiny, shallow water dish changed daily

Seasonal Appetite Changes

Eurydactylodes may eat slightly less during cooler winter months. This is normal providing body condition remains good. Monitor weight monthly — a healthy adult should feel solid and not show visible ribs or hip bones. Seek veterinary advice if appetite loss is prolonged or accompanied by weight loss.

What If My Gecko Won’t Eat?

  • Approaching shed — appetite often drops before a shed
  • Temperature outside the ideal range
  • Stress from recent handling or enclosure changes
  • CGD flavour preference — try a different brand or formula
  • Seasonal winter slowdown

If your Eurydactylodes refuses food for more than 1–2 weeks or shows visible weight loss, consult a reptile vet promptly — small geckos deteriorate more quickly than larger species.
